First year pupils at Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School got into the Burns Day spirit by enjoying a dynamic theatre show based on the life and times of the Bard with a modern twist.

Every year a theatrical performance is put on at the school to celebrate Burns and last Friday morning the Fizzgig theatre company arrived to entertain and educate pupils with their performance of ‘Wee Sleekit Cowrin' Timorous Beastie’.

The show took pupils through a condensed version of Burns’ life by using poetry to contextualise it.

Head teacher Christopher Smith said: “The kids loved the performance by Fizzgig as it was made very relevant to their lives as the company is young and dynamic.

Burns poems were part of the performance, but they were given a modern twist so that it was easier to understand, and pupils and staff were involved throughout.

The feedback was very positive.”
